“Shall the measure, providing funding for City of Piedmont’s essential city services, such as police, fire, and emergency medical response; and maintenance of aging City buildings, parks, stormwater drains, roads and sidewalks, by increasing the real estate transfer tax from 1.3% to 1.75% to be more in line with neighboring cities and to generate approximately $1,500,000 annually in general tax revenue until ended by voters, be adopted?”

Ballot Question:

For almost 60 years Piedmont has depended on its transfer tax to fund critical services for Piedmont residents. Fire protection, police services, emergency medical response, street and sidewalk repair and more are funded, in part, by the city’s transfer tax.

Measure GG will raise Piedmont’s transfer tax from 1.3% to 1.75% (generally split between the buyer and seller when a home is sold).

Approval of this measure will put Piedmont’s transfer tax more in line with neighboring cities that have updated their measures over the years. The last time Piedmont’s measure was updated was over 30 years ago.

Measure GG will generate approximately $1,500,000 a year. Unlike state or county revenue measures, all money raised by Measure GG stays in Piedmont to support essential city services.

Measure GG is supported by Piedmont’s Budget Advisory and Financial Planning Committee, Piedmont’s City Council, eight former Mayors, and all members of the Piedmont Board of Education.
